Western Brown High School’s track and field standout, Aubrey Schaffner, has been named the Southern Buckeye Athletic/Academic Conference American Division Field Event Person on the Year.
Schaffner received her award during the SBAAC Spring Sports Awards Dinner and Banquet held June 1.
Schaffner was also among those receiving SBAAC American Division Track and Field First Team awards during the spring banquet.
Schaffner, as a junior this past spring, was the SBAAC American Division champion in the shot put (38-8) and discus (114-9) events.
There were a total of seven members of the Western Brown girls’ track and field team receiving SBAAC American Division First Team awards: freshman Bella Woodyard, senior Lilly Stacy, junior Aubrey Schaffner, freshman Harper Jones, freshman Rian Helton, sophomore Jalyn Hahn, and freshman Kortlynn Duncan.
Also taking home SBAAC American Division First Team track and field awards were: Riley Davis (New Richmond), Rose Hall (Clinton-Massie), Ava Davis (Clinton-Massie), Olivia Carpenter (Clinton-Massie), Bia Burton (Clinton-Massie), Riley Van Frank (Batavia), Neenah Smith (Batavia), Abby Hughbanks (Batavia), Mahali Grant (Batavia), Hazel Gipson (Batavia), Lexie Crouch (Batavia), and Lauren Cravens (Batavia).
Finishing as this year’s SBAAC American Division girls track and field champions were the Batavia Lady Bulldogs with Western Brown finishing runner-up.
Batavia’s Wayne Stacy received the SBAAC American Division Girls’ Track and Field Coach of the Year Award, while Batavia sophomore Abby Hughbanks received the American Division Runner of the Year Award.
In the SBAAC National Division there were two Georgetown freshmen who took home top track and field awards. Georgetown freshman Allie Tolle earned the SBAAC National Division Runner of the Year Award, and Georgetown freshman Lydia Johnson received the SBAAC National Division Field Event Person of the Year Award.
Tolle was the SBAAC National Division champion in the 1,600 meter run (5:36.45) and the 3,200 meter run (12:29.06).
Johnson was the SBAAC National Division champion in the shot put event (37-6) and the discus event (113-7).
The Clermont Northeastern Lady Rockets finished their this year’s SBAAC National Division track and field champs, while the Williamsburg Wildcats finished runner-up.
Receiving SBAAC National Division Girls’ First Team Track and Field awards during the June 1 banquet were: Savannah Wahl (Williamsburg), Claire Moore (Williamsburg), Peyton Jones (Williamsburg), Cailee Johnson (Williamsburg), Kiera Gregory (Williamsburg), Brooklynn Gibson (Williamsburg), Makinley Fishback (Williamsburg), Emily Earley (Williamsburg), Emily Earley (Williamsburg), Reddyn Cleaver (Williamsburg), Lyla Ayers (Williamsburg), Allie Tolle (Georgetown), Lydia Johnson (Georgetown), Grace Wiseman (East Clinton), Bella Wilson (Clermont Northeastern), Cinder Shaw (Clermont Northeastern), Paige Donaldson (Clermont Northeastern), Julia Best (Clermont Northeastern), Rileigh Ashley (Clermont Northeastern), and Addison Elam (Blanchester).
Receiving the SBAAC National Division Girls’ Track and Field Coach of the Year Award was Clermont Northeastern’s Liz Benjamin.
